In a Search Engine Watch article published today, Eric Enge puts forward an appealing argument that "SEO Link Building is Just Like Business Development" in terms of link building having "...become a cross between old-fashioned PR and business development."

We believe that this reflects the maturity of Digital best practice techniques and, finally, the decreased delineation between Digital and established, 'traditional' marketing disciplines (which have themselves evolved to incorporate Digital techniques), finally fulfilling the promise of integration.

We will expand on this in a review of the Q1 2010 Digital landscape, from which it's clear that Digital is continuing to dissolve into the integrated marketing mix. The fall in digital specific jobs, compared with an increase in total marketing hires, emphasises that marketing directors are increasingly expected to have a firm understanding of the digital area themselves.
